WATERVILLE, Maine - The Husson University Eagles (6-7-0, 3-1-0 NAC) battled the #18 Colby Mules (9-5-0, 4-5-0 NESCAC) in their final non-conference match of the season under the lights on Thursday night. Despite scoring first, the Eagles ultimately fell to the Mules, 2-1.
Allysah Greene put the Eagles up 1-0 in the second minute of the match as she deflected a rebound off of a shot from Mallory Fairbanks just over the left shoulder of Mules' keeper Emily Buckman. Less than two minutes later, Colby evened the score when Ally Corbett was able to slip the ball to Georgia Cassidy into the circle who needed just a few dribbles before sweeping a goal past Eagles' goalie Kimmie Goddard.
Despite an attacking surge from the Mules midway through the second quarter, first-year keeper Goddard kept the game tied at one as she made three saves on point-blank shots from the home team. With seven minutes remaining in the half, Husson's offense picked up as Greene was able to eliminate two Mules defenders before sending a reverse sweep shot that went just wide of the goal, keeping the game in a deadlock heading into halftime.
Colby scored what would be the game winning goal with seven minutes remaining in the match to take their first lead of the night. Cassidy dished a pass to Delaney Keithley, who sent a shot just wide of the reach of Goddard to break the stalemate and put the home team up 2-1.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
Goddard was the difference maker for the Eagles, as the freshman turned away nine of the 11 shots she faced, while Buckman made two saves in the win for the Mules.
The Eagles are set to host Becker College for their Senior Night on Saturday, October 26th for a 4:00pm NECC match-up.
