WATERVILLE, Maine- The Husson University field hockey team (0-2) lost to the Colby College Mules (1-0) by the final score of 6-0 on Wednesday night at Bill Alfond Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mules opened up the score as Lauren Walter received a pass from Georgia Cassidy, sliding the ball past Andrea Shaggy to give Colby a 1-0 lead with 28:34 left in the first half.
Colby extended the lead to 3-0 thanks to two goals scored in the span of 45 seconds. Delaney Keithley scored on a penalty corner from Cassidy. After the restart, Sarah Gaffney found Emily Hogan for a one-timer and Hogan scored to make it 3-0 with 5:30 left in the first half.
The Mules extended their lead in the second half as Myri Skodock knocked in a pair of goals and Cassidy earned her second point of the night with a goal of her own to close out the match 6-0.
Shaggy registered five saves for the Eagles. Riley Whitmyer started the game for the Mules, playing the first 52:47 in between the posts while making one save. Emily Buckman replaced Whitmyer in net to cover the final 17:13 in the Colby victory.
Colby outshot Husson, 15-2, with 11-1 shots on goal. The Mules took 13 penalty corners to the Eagles three penalty corners.
The field hockey team returns to the field on Wednesday, September 12th as they travel to Standish, Maine to take on the Saint Joseph's (Maine) Monks at 6:00 PM.
