BANGOR, Maine - Sophomore forward Sadie Royer scored two goals and added an assist to help Husson University (9-5, 5-0 NAC East) topple UMaine-Farmington (6-8, 4-1 NAC East), 3-2, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey contest at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Eagles extend their home winning streak to three games.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Beavers controlled the pace of play early and claimed a 1-0 lead at the 34:59 mark of the first half when senior Carly Raymond scored off a rebound. Royer netted the equalizer ten minutes later with a shot past Beavers' senior keeper Alyssa Arsenault.
Junior Emma Martineau gave the Beavers a 2-1 lead going into the intermission with an unassisted goal with 6:51 remaining in the half.
Husson managed to tie the contest up four minutes into the second half when Russell knocked in a rebound off a Royer shot before Royer pushed the game-winner pass Arsenault in the 63rd minute and the Eagles defense calmed down the Beavers in the remaining seven minutes for the victory.
Husson's Provencal posted eight saves in the HU victory while Arsenault recorded seven stops in a losing effort.
Husson held impressive leads in shots (20-16), shots on goal (12-11), and penalty corners (7-4) in the victory.
With the win, Husson improves to 17-21 in the history of the series with UMaine-Farmington and now have defeated the Beavers at Home in five-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2013 campaign.
Husson will host a NAC Field Hockey Championship Tournament semifinal match next Wednesday vs. a TBD opponent.
