BANGOR, Maine - Senior forward Lauren Russell scored two goals to help Husson University (6-3, 3-0 NAC) topple Colby-Sawyer (7-5, 1-2 NAC) in a conference field hockey contest at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Eagles controlled the pace of play throughout and claimed a 1-0 lead at the 4:23 mark when senior Mikalya Toth scored off a penalty corner from Sadie Royer. Taylor Shaw netted what proved to be the game-winner nine minutes later with a shot past the Charger's goalkeeper.
Colby-Sawyer scored their lone goal of the game at 24:31 in the first half when Paige Viens made the most of a pass from Alie Jones and slapped the shot by the Husson keeper.
Russell started off the second half with her first of two goals to make the Eagles' lead 3-1, off of another Royer assist, at the 39 minute mark. Her second goal of the evening came 9 minutes later in thanks from an useful pass by Alison Leighton.
Set up by a few penalty corner chances, Kolby Kain scored the fifth and final goal with no time left on the clock. Toth helped on the goal with her lone assist on the night.
Husson senior Anne Marie Provencal posted eight saves on nine shots in the HU victory while Abby Ladd also recorded eight saves, in a losing effort.
Husson held leads in shots (25-14) and penalty corners (15-7), while Colby Sawyer lead in shots on goal (9-8).
The Eagles welcome Clark University to the Winkin Complex on Tuesday, October 10, at 3:00 pm for a non-conference match-up.
