MARSHFIELD, Mass. - Husson junior quarterback Cory Brandon has been named the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in his career and senior rover Jean Gabriel has been named the ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time in his career, the conference office announced Monday.
Brandon led Husson to its 12th straight victory at home and its 10th straight ECFC win on Saturday. He connected on 15-of-17 passes - an 88.2 completion percentage, breaking the previous HU single-game mark of 84.6 - for 183 yards and four touchdowns against Castleton. The junior QB struck for touchdowns of 5, 18, 11, and 13 yards on the day and did not throw an interception. Brandon started the game by completing his first 14 passes before throwing an incomplete pass, setting a new single-game school record for most consecutive passes completed. He also became the school's all-time career leader in passes completed with 267.
Gabriel was a busy guy in Husson's 49-0 win at home over Castleton. In the first half, he blocked a punt setting up Husson's second touchdown of the first quarter. In the third quarter, he blocked a punt again that was recovered at the Castleton 47, setting up the Eagles' last touchdown of the game as he surpassed his single-season record of most blocked kicks (3) with his fourth in 2017. In addition, Gabriel recorded an interception, a force fumble, 1.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, and had six total tackles, four solo with a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry in the victory. Gabriel became the first player in HU history to record two different two-blocked punts games in their career.
