Baseball Heads Back to Maine with a 5-6 Record over Spring Break

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -The Husson Eagles (5-6) were swept in their Friday afternoon doubleheader, losing their early leads late in both games as they dropped their first one to Westfield State University, 4-3, and their second game to Worcester State University, 5-3.


The Eagles got out to an early start, scoring a run in both the second and third innings. Luke Covey scored on a sacrifice fly by Alex Chapman in the second, which was followed by a third-inning RBI single for David LeBlanc, scoring Kobe Rogerson and giving Husson a 2-0 lead. 

Westfield State (4-3) answered with a run of their own in the third inning, but the Eagles countered with Ethan Stoddard scoring on an RBI single by Roberson in the fourth, to help Husson return to a two-run advantage, 3-1, advancing into the bottom of the fourth.

Three innings later as both team's defense was on lockdown mode, the Owls began climbing back into the game with a SAC fly in the eighth to advance Jamie Butler into scoring position and send Colin Dunn home. With just one out, an error in the infield helped the Owls score the tying run. They continued their rally taking a 4-3 lead before Nick Guerrette and Alex Chapman secured the final out to the end the inning.

The Eagles were just 90-feet away from once again evening the score in the top of the ninth, but left the runner stranded as they fell to Westfield State, 4-3. 


Jesse Colford pitched well for the Eagles, before running into trouble in the eighth inning, allowing just one earned run, two walks, and tossing in six K's.

Shane Bogli stood on the mound for the majority of the game for the Owls, striking out four without any walks and just two earned runs in six innings. Three other Owls stepped in to throw, helping secure the win. 


  • David Leblanc went 3-4, with an RBI and a stolen base.
  • Kobe Rogerson was 2-3 in the game, with an RBI and a run scored.


  • Casey Boudreau was 2-4 in the game, with a double and an RBI.
  • Both Nick Martin and Steve Saucier contributed an RBI, in a winning effort for Westfield State.



Worcester State (5-2) got on the board early with two first inning runs, but the Eagles drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of one to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. Worcester State would come back and add one in the third inning, to reclaim their two-run lead. 

In the fifth, Ethan Stoddard came up huge for Husson, with a two-run RBI double that scored both Nick Guerrette and Kobe Rogerson, to even the score at 3-3. 

The eighth inning was the turning point in the ballgame, as Worcester State cashed in on a solo home run by Kenan Kolanda, putting the Lancers back out in front, 4-3. They came back to score again in the ninth inning to claim a 5-3 lead. 


Husson's Austin Smith pitched deep into the game lasting 8.1 innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out four. Jacob Gauvin stepped in as relief to complete the final two outs in the ninth. 

Josh Boucher and Kyle Gray split the game on the mound as Gray earned the win by throwing 4.1 innings of no-hit, shutout baseball to hold the Eagles in check, and hang on for the win.



  • Kevin Larkin was 2-4 combined with three RBI.
  • Kenan Kolanda smacked the lone homer of the afternoon.


The Eagles get over a week off after returning from their Florida road trip, before they're back in action against Newbury College, for a doubleheader matchup on the road. First pitch of game one is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 23rd.
