Joseph F. Mello was a member of the Men’s Soccer team from 1973 to 1976. He was inducted into the Husson Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.

He received several honors as he earned All-Conference in 1975 and was named to the NAIA District 5 & 32 Area XI All-Star Team in 1975 and 1976. He also served as a captain for the 1975 season.

Mello finished 18th in career assists with 17. His 70 games played are also tied for 20th all time in program history.

Throughout his four seasons in an Eagle’s uniform, Mello netted nine goals and tallied 17 assists for a total of 35 points. He recorded 34 shots with a .265 on goal percentage. His teams went a combined 63-9-3.

Mello was a champion every year he played. In 1973, his team won the NAIA District 32 North Championship and were NAIA Area 8 Runner Ups. He won three straight NCC Championships from 1974-76. His junior year his team also won the NAIA District 5 Championship and were the NAIA Area Runner Ups. His senior year he was a NAIA District 5 North Division Runner Up.

Joseph Mello was a key contributor in one of the most successful four year runs in Husson Men’s Soccer history.
