BANGOR, Maine - For the second week in a row, Bailey Donovan earned the spotlight of being named the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week. After achieving his first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekly honor, Derek Collin also grabbed additional recognition, landing a spot on the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Rookie Honor Roll.
MWBCA Rookie of the Week: Bailey Donovan, Husson (Fr. – Island Falls, ME)
In a tough out-of-conference week, Donovan continued to shine for the Eagles, averaging yet another double-double week between 16.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. In a close fall to Bates College, 59-51, the rookie powered a rallying fourth quarter with nine points while shooting 3-3 from the charity stripe, to add to her 14 total points throughout the game and eight rebounds. Later in the week, the first-year contributed 19 points and two blocks in 24 minutes of action off the bench. On the 0-2 week, Donovan shot 66.7% (12-18) from the field with 33 points and 24 rebounds.
MMBCWA Rookie Honor Roll: Derek Collin, Husson (Fr. - Bar Harbor, ME)
Collin led an explosive second half in a setback against Bates on Wednesday, scoring 14 points in 16 minutes to help Husson outscore the Bobcats in the second stanza. In total, Collin tallied 18 points, on 61.5 percent shooting, and eight rebounds in the loss. He continued to display confidence under the glass, grabbing a team-high seven rebounds, and added two points, two assists, and two steals, against Saint Joseph's College (Maine).
