Husson Athletics Congratulates Frank Fazzino on his New Coaching Role

BANGOR, Maine - After working as the throws coach and strength and conditioning coach for both the indoor and outdoor men's and women's track & field programs over the past two years, Frank Fazzino will be entering his third year at Husson University as the associate head coach for six programs. He will continue working primarily with the throwers in all four track & field programs, but Fazzino will also enter into a new role working with the men's and women's cross country teams as the associate head coach alongside head coach Kate Goupee.

The track & field coaching staff led both outdoor programs to a second place finish at the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship in 2019, sending 13 Eagles to compete at the New England Division III Championship. The men's outdoor throwers coached by Fazzino, took a clean sweep of first place at the 2019 NAC Championship in all throwing events. Concluding the 2018-19 indoor track & field season, the Husson coaching staff saw ten student-athletes qualify for the New England DIII Championship. Fazzino will be joining an impressive cross country program with the men winning their first NAC Championship in 2018 and the women taking home second place.

In his first season as a member of the Eagle track & field coaching staff (2017-18), Fazzino coached a throws group that produced the program's first-ever indoor All-New England Honoree and the first NAC Field Athlete of the Year in Eric Hathaway. The group also earned four All-NAC selections (Hathaway (2), Justin Martin and Jeff Ward) and sent two throwers to the 2018 New England Division III Outdoor Championship Meet in Hathaway and Martin, while Hathaway earned his second consecutive All-New England Honor, becoming the first Eagle in program history to earn back-to-back honors. Additionally, the group also produced one 2017-18 New England Division III Indoor Championship qualifer in Hathaway as well two conference outdoor champions in Hathaway in the hammer throw and Martin in the javelin throw.

Head Coach Kate Goupee remarks, "Coach Fazzino's talents as a coach and organizer have been felt in all parts of our Track and Field Program. Promoting him to Associate Head Coach better acknowledges what he brings to our teams on a daily basis. We are equally excited to have him join our cross country teams on the trails which will provide valuable consistency between those teams and Coach Fazzino's strength and conditioning programming as well assisting XC athletes that transition to our track & field programs."

Prior to coming to Husson, Fazzino spent two seasons as the assistant coach for throws and strength & conditioning at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in Mansfield, Pa. He also spent time as the head track & field coach at Irvington High School in Irvington, N.Y.  from 2010-2014.
